It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.

However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters.

"My dear Mr. Bennet," said his lady to him one day, "have you heard that Netherfield Park is let at last?"

Mr. Bennet replied that he had not.

"But it is," returned she; "for Mrs. Long has just been here, and she told me all about it."

Mr. Bennet made no answer.

"Do you not want to know who has taken it?" cried his wife impatiently.

"You want to tell me, and I have no objection to hearing it."

This was invitation enough.

--The opening of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

So I was playing with the kobo app for my ipod touch (merry christmas, I'm spoiled), and the dang thing done gave me Pride and Prejudice. While I was waiting on other things to download, I gave the book a little glance-through.

WELL.

It's pretty funny. I only made it a few pages before things started working, but I really liked the banter.

I've already said to some people I was going to read it, but it just got moved up a lot higher on the list.

To those interested, here's the Gutenberg.org link. If you browse around the site, there's Audiobook versions too.

And an added benefit - once you've read it, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies becomes even more amusing.

A very good plan. My son read it but has never read the original, and didn't enjoy it as much as he might have if he had.

I prefer Emma, though I did enjoy the S and S movie very much.

Mm, I don't think so, alas. I could be wrong.

I liked S&S and Sea Monsters, especially turning wossname into Dr Zoidberg/Davy Jones. Oh! It's also a Lovecraft mashup.
