Lord, I know I haven't been a good man, but I deserve some sort of reparations for the amount of people who argue with me when I'm not wrong or just repeat my point back at me, badly. Or worse, try to make a joke off my joke but theirs is a parasite that kills the original humour.

In other less pissy news:

Watched Strange World, the 2022 Disney animated movie I never saw advertised anywhere with my friend. We played our game of 'why did Disney bury this movie?' as we watched and found a bunch of examples which spoke well for the movie.

Further, the movie was interesting as it read as the evolution of the sci-fi genre - macho man white grandpa, sensitive but still colonial white son, equity and systemic minded black grandson and The Women Were Also There I Guess (I liked them but they did not get any arcs, which was frustrating but also, I suppose, a sign of the sci-fi metaphor).

Also Splat was like, the Chosen One on his own quest in there. That's my explanation for why he's the only blue one and how he leads to the heroes succeeding in their heroing.

The mind-chess of commenting on you prayer is almost too much for me. But once I was like, Alphabetically it makes sense to unleash the War on Empathy after the War on Drugs, and someone else was like Yet, well after the War on Facts. It was not quite parasitic, but it felt to me like they picked up a lesser joke that I had left on the road on purpose.

I haven't heard about Strange World before, to no ones surprise.

Oh no! And I get that. Me, I must find a lost piece of paper tomorrow, because the agency that refused to let me print my receipt didn't send the thing, bless them. Presumably to save even more paper.

My library has 4 copies, so it's on the list now, and I will certainly try!

(No I didn't know that, that's cool! I just said 'ghost twins' to Ann because she posted a Ghost picture just when I reblogged a ghost thing, so this is all very spooky!)

She sure knows to get the best out of felt pens! Oh, that would make sense. The poor thing.

Are they on AO3? Can you put original stories on AO3 at all? I have no idea. A guy in my class once approached me for his horror zine and I made them a cover with a claw raising from the grave and they were so pleased.

And I'm no writer but I liked to make ghostly adventures. I had a boat of novice adventurers stuck in a declining fisher village with a few Roman style villas over winter, with not place to stay but like 6 spooky ruins to investigate. I only finished writing out the old Judge's compound, but I got a lot of use out of that.

I'm a hour into the film now and I had to pause and come here to remind me about the theory I'm supposed to subscribe to. I see. I haven't seen anything that would contradict it but I hope to find more than that in the second half!

Oooooh. I kept wondering about the burying by Disney, but after the great plot twist I have no further questions. About that.

Okay, in the whole Giant Turtle/Living World scenario, Splat is the equivalent to a T-Cell-Receptor, right? The way Explorer!Clade explains it there seem to be many like him, trying to lead visitors to their demise, but we only ever meet this one for some reason.

I think? I noticed and appreciated it. But seeing that the son's love interest then conveniently doesn't partake in the adventure which is just for the family, the gay stuff seemed just off-stage enough to be Disney-compatible? Maybe I just don't know enough about recent Disney politics.

Ah, that's a point in favor of Chosen One splat then.

Oh yeah I didn't expect them to redeem angry Grandpa to the extent they did, that was nice. And son's crush/boyfriend was longer on screen than strictly necessary, that's also true.

The last Disney thing I saw was Elemental. I don't know I liked it very much, I definitely liked this one better, but Elemental kind of set my expectations for how daring Strange World would feel and for what I think modern Disney would allow.

It's embarrassing, I didn't figure out they were inside a living creature until it was spelled out, in spite of all the hints and garish colors, and I didn't consider turtles until the very end.

Too bad Splat isn't the only red one instead because then you could argue it's because Splat swallowed the red pill! :D
