Intense oppositional defiance today

Minding my own business when someone I dislike makes a declaration about something I don't give a fuck about and I am STILL like 'you're not the boss of me! I'll fight you! On the beaches!'

Just letting that feeling pass through me and move along.

Sometimes when the world gets out of my control I'll do little things to let me feel like I have a grasp on my existence, like look up a topic I have feelings about (not the above) on bluesky and block everyone who crosses me. Lately that search topic has been Neil Gaiman. I'm not sure if it's the result of my frequent blocking but I do hope the reason I find so few people to block is because not many people want to defend him. And that I got rid of all the 'haha I'm superior because I have never liked a bad person in my LIFE' early on. Your hubris will not save you.

Depressingly this is not effective with J K Rowling because there's too much everything that just kills my will to live instead of a satisfactory 'off to the shadow realm' feeling.

If this doesn't work, I buy tiny plastic horses (schleich) because buying + gazing is a powerful two punch of dopamine.

It's not so bad right now though - I'm not spending my day in bed, I've been going on walks, I'm planning to go back to the gym, I got new blue shoes that fit, I'm spending more time with friends, and I'm gonna see if I can successfully bake cakes in my big toaster oven.

I also have MANY tiny plastic horses to gaze at.

Lol, I do something similar, sometimes when I see a post I hate I'll open the notes and start blocking everyone I think is behaving like a moron. Lessens the impact of seeing a post I can't stand to know that I've removed the worst offenders from ever bringing their brand of crazy to my blog.

The bookshop toy branch here is still full of Rowlingmerchandise. I'm angry because we're now at the point where all their little customers can expect to suffer from the policies the franchise owner pushes.
I love the Schleich horsies and they're discounted now but I feel they're still not in my price range.* Schleich will forgive me, they have all my smurf money already.

* They aren't THAT tiny though. Handsized maybe?

Gross. Gross gross. I'm trying to ignore Schleich also makes HP merch because it at least looks pretty awful. They cannot do humans.

I mean, they're tiny relative to the size of a real horse.

They shouldn't do humans! They are hopeless, their Gargamel is the size of a smurf. And I saw it on the shelves, their HP figures are strikingly unalive.

Oh yes, Barbie uses the same boilerplate 'HP merch, but awful' contract, it looks like.

Now that's true. Somehow my idea of tiny was MLP sized. I know there are actually all sorts of My little pony, I mean the tiny ones obviously.

Haha, I'm glad you specified - My mental vision of MLP is the 80s ones which dwarf the schleichs.

I don't think it's alright that hateful, murderous Rowling and the corporate weird Auntie Rowling of old can coexist so independently of each others. Like I'm supposed to go oh right, it's the offline world they can't know, as if everyone wasn't stacking the HP merch with a smartphone stuck in their buttpocket.

My bus friend Debbie, who is 66 and only uses the internet to talk to her son in Australia on Discord and watch Diagnosis Murder, brought up Harry Potter in conversation briefly, then said, "Of course we don't buy that stuff anymore." The only adults who don't know, choose not to know.

I haven't seen a soul defend Neil Gaiman other than That Guy who always turns up in comics communities to say IT'S WRONG TO TAKE AWAY A MAN'S LIVING UNLESS HE'S BEEN CONVICTED IN COURT WHAT HAPPENED TO INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. (So far, near as I can tell, the only actual loss he's taken is Dark Horse cancelling all his books, and he almost certainly got a kill fee for that.)

Can you do mug cakes in your oven, or will mugs fit in there? Otherwise, they make mini cake pans and those little loaf pans, those should work.

Oh it's a VERY LARGE toaster oven. I've been making pan cooking in there for a while now. It's more a matter of heat.

I think it's because I've become a sort of virtual hermit, but I haven't seen anyone defend NG either. Tbf few people I know irl have even heard of him. I do have to control myself when my father and cousin bring up HP around me these days, though.

That's why it's such an effective 'I have control' technique, because the chances are pretty low which means you're not overwhelmed with frustration from too many.
