crantz: The hamster is saying bollocks. It is a scornful hamster (harry potter)
"I prefer not to put all of my secrets in one basket, particularly not a basket that spends so much time dangling on the arm of Lord Voldemort."

"Which I do on your orders!"

-In which I picture Snape as a mob moll in The Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling

I did it! I read all the Harry Potter books! And it wasn't an endurance trial like I was worried when I started, I'd started to dread the books after some teenage/early twenties ennui. But it turned out that the last three were my favourites. Oh my goodness.

Order of the Phoenix was definitely my favourite, though. I loved its structure and what happened and the crowning moments in it. Of course, the final book, Deathly Hallows...

So when I read up to book four (I'm not going to count book 5, because honestly, due to a variety of Problems, that whole year might not have happened), my favourite character was Snape. NO REALLY. Followed by Dumbledore. But on this reread and with the final books, I am afraid they have been bumped down slots. No, my new fave is McGonagall. Take me, you tartan temptress.

Man, Voldemort was a vile piece of work, amirite? I was surprised, though, in Deathly Hallows (and in Half Blood Prince before it, sort of) I'd started to actually enjoy the parts with the Malfoys. Before that I'd just sort of quietly endured them, hoping a hippogriff would suddenly appear, snatch Draco up, and eat him.

It could happen.

Christ, the foreshadowing in those books. They were rife. Rife. And Luna and Neville were magnificent. I adored them. And Dean got his time in the sun in Deathly Hallows! I'm not sure he enjoyed it, but I've always had a soft spot for Mr. Thomas. I'm not sure whether it was something in the books or a fanfic depiction once because god knows it's all a giant swirl of 'did that actually happen?' to me.

SPOILER SECTION:

I am a little sad about what happened with Slytherin house, but I am glad of Slughorn. EDIT: Have just been informed that the scene wasn't clear and that Slytherin actually did have a big damn hero moment. It was a cool scene before, now it's even better. I really like Slughorn. Him and his studly walrus-stache. And the Malfoys at the end! And Molly's battle-cry. And Harry in the woods. You know, with the rock. My god. And Dumbledore's past. It made me like him more, he became way more like a person to me.

Okay, that's it for spoilers. CARRY ON.
