I wish I didn't associate music so strongly with where I heard it first, sometimes.

For instance, I'm listening to the Nutcracker Suite right now. Beautiful, beautiful music and I'm finally old enough it isn't boring the fuck out of me*.

Unfortunately, all I'm seeing when I listen to the first two songs (March, Sugarplum Fairy) is um, is the goddamn freaking Carebears. See, my mom would tape us cartoons when we were kdis, and one of the things she'd taped was the carebears Nutcracker movie so many a day was spent watching it. Oh my soul.

The next few songs, Arabian Dance, Chinese Dance, etc, I see Fantasia. Lovely goldfish, unnerving mushrooms.

So this isn't so bad, right.

Then Johnny Cash's hurt comes on for the first time and I see that video that involves Kermit the Frog: Doing drugs, vomiting, masturbating, and prostituting himself with Rowlf the dog.

I'm going to go claw out my mind's eye.

*Already looking up places where I can see it this winter

I didn't know "Hurt" was part of the Nutcracker Suite. Obviously I have a defective copy.
