Nov. 27th, 2010 02:31 pmFirst! I saw The Thin Man for the first time last night. Nick and Nora! Aster the dog! Oh my god, it was wonderful. The banter! The costumes! The hair! The unmitigated alcoholism!
I totally recommend this movie. Me and my dad are gonna watch the other ones at some point.
In other news, while getting pizza to eat today the idea of it shimmering into existence in front of me after ordering came to mind, and I came up with this story idea while I ate.
Please enjoy:

It's 2030 and humanity's hunger crisis, among other problems, have been solved. Matter Transformers are active in every home, providing food, clothing, and objects in exchange for Matter Credits (MatCreds). Basic items are free, part of humanity's right to survival. Trash? A thing of the past, as every piece of unneeded matter is fed back into the machines for the sake of keeping a healthy MatCred balance. Matter farms, filled with kudzu and other fast growing plants, thrive, with their farmers making a fortune.
If you want to beat the price of the copyrighted food, there's always opensource, matter codes made for sharing and keeping MatCred spending low. These food codes can be found all over the Net, created by likeminded individuals.
Shari is an opensource chef. Follow her as she travels across the world looking for out of copyright food, visiting the few remaining food farms as well as jungles and other exotic locations, as she creates new recipe codes to share.

Date: 2010-11-29 09:29 am (UTC)First I thought that they'd have lower quality one, because it just seems ingrained into the mindset that poorer people will get shitty stuff no matter what. But then! Then! I remembered that the machines make identical copies, so what would be the point of making a lower quality version when it costs the same amount to just make another good one? No one saves any money, which is the usual reason people get saddled with shitty stuff by the people above them.
So I think that's the answer there. Whether or not they have the free matcred foods (basic, healthy staples) that the north american countries do, however, is another story.
I think the initial amount of matter they use for the machines to really get things going is that trash island in the ocean.

Date: 2010-11-28 12:17 am (UTC)I really love Nick and Nora's relationship. None of the drama is about them and that's wonderful!

Date: 2010-11-28 03:47 am (UTC)I'm a little confused why the one where they were smacking eachother was the one that made me laugh the hardest, though. I guess because that's something me and my sister do to eachother.
Their dog is so cute and cowardly.
