It's miserable weather out there
Nov. 7th, 2022 03:35 amWhich means my attempts to acquire iced coffee have... stalled on account of storms.
You don't understand, I wanted it *now*.
The cat keeps making us put her on her leash and show her each door in turn so she can make sure that THIS one isn't different than the other. Maybe there's summer behind one of them! We know it will never be different. We still do it for her. She is 10 pounds of House Boss.
A good friend of mine is knitting me a sweater right now and I am super excited and trying not to put pressure on her by staring at her through the email window, but I am also super excited.
I've been jamming on Second Life a lot lately and making all sorts of weird little avatars. I think my favourite is my Hamsdeer avatar, which is a hamster with antlers and fawn spots. Copyright ME. Yeah!
I commissioned art of a city of heroes character - Beloved Emily, my ghost, who I didn't play this Halloween like I was hoping to because I spent all of October dying inside! So I didn't play my already dead stuff! School has been ROUGH but I endure because school is also finite.
Speaking of school stress, I am in a weeder biology course so by actual metrics and grades I'm doing very well compared to my classmates, the fact the numbers are not As like I'm used to is killing my soul piece by piece. I'm one of those people who wants to be a perfectionist but isn't actually very good at it.
I'm also taking a clay course as advised by my archaeology professor because pottery is like, THE big human artifact and it's a good idea for me to learn more about how the material works and it turns out I'm not very good at sculpting 3d objects! So while I've definitely achieved my goal of learning the media (I have nothing but respect for our ancestors who figured out how this shit works, if it had been me we'd be drinking coffee out of leaves to this day) but let's just say I'm lucky we're being graded on effort and creativity and not end product beyond 'not horribly cracked/exploded'.
I'm still regularly keeping a paper journal. Haven't missed a day yet since I started. It's sort of interesting looking back on these and seeing what I thought it was important for me to know in the future. My memory is so bad it's like 'oh good, I'm being written to by a ghost'.
My grandpa died? Did I mention that? Anyway, that was rough and awful and sad and I miss him. I was very close to him. I think I missed a few week to months around that period. People were very understanding. I appreciate that I've got friends and fellow mods in the stuff I'm in charge of that are willing to pick up my slack when I can't handle it.
Last thing that's really worth updating on is I watched The Thing for the first time and now I have another cultural touchstone added to my collection. I really liked it! It didn't scare me which was a shame but it was really fun to watch and the environmental storytelling when they went to the other camp was superb.
I wrote some fic for some exchanges too, but I'm waiting on reveals for Trick or Treat before posting about them.
