Coraline discovered the door a little while after they moved into the house.

-Opening line of Coraline by Neil Gaiman

I haven't read in a long while. I'm not sure why, but it seems to have coincided to when I got netflix. How strange. However, I'm back in the saddle as on my trip to Boston to see my friend Snacky, I tore through three James Herriot books: James Herriot's Cat Stories, James Herriot's Dog Stories, and James Herriot's Animal stories, as well as finishing The Lord God Made Them All.

They taught me two things: If you write a story about a little old lady and her pets crying, I WILL cry on an airplane all the while thinking to myself 'YOU FOOL! STIFF UPPER LIP!' and I now know what it looks like when a cat is suffering from hairballs in the stomach.

Last night while working off anxiety (a hotel overcharged me by around a thousand dollars, long story), I started reading Coraline, a book by Neil Gaiman that I am sure I'd read part of before, but never finished if I did. I have, however, seen the movie countless times and love it forever.

The book is not like the movie so far, since the movie is so tied up with its visual style and its music and its voices in my head. But that doesn't mean I don't like the book, which I'm finding a nice comfortable read which manages to get rid of the anxiety until I turn out the light, close my eyes, and think 'well, that day wasn't so bad! Why was I ever worried-- OH GOD THAT'S WHY I WAS WORRIED' as my eyes snap open again.

I hope to finish it either tonight or tomorrow. Not sure what I'll be reading on the plane home, but it's six hours to entertain myself.
