Fandom note: I only know the Silver Age canon for these characters and their interactions. You are welcome to use later canon but I request you add context/exposition. Alternately please feel free to use the platonic ideal type of characterization/setting.
A big part of choosing this pairing is because Boston Brand cannot communicate with the living world in normal ways. And one of those ways he CAN is, say, leaving messages through Bruce himself.
A really important part of these characters that happened in the Silver Age is that Boston steals Bruce's older brother's body which we only see again right before his (Thomas Wayne Jr's) death. You don't have to use this! I'm just being clear right now though that I am okay if you do use this. It's definitely not a DNW, because it's such an interesting narrative wrinkle.

Fandom note: I have been out of touch with canon since the end of GenX. In a way, these characters for me still live in early 2000s, where it was pretty common to not have an email. Or even earlier, back when the internet wasn't a thing at all during the Claremont Era. However, you can use the modern stuff which I am caught up on enough I'll know what you're talking about and what I don't know, I'll look up.

Fandom note: I would prefer that this take place pre-Apocalypse storyline because that was a bummer. That said, the Hellboy is the true king of England thing IS pretty cool so if you do want to do something with that, there's a reason that this is part of the reason the Apocalypse storyline isn't a DNW.
Hellboy is a great canon for epistolary - they're in the news, they're digging through histories, they're research subjects, they're always far apart from each other, Kate's an academic, etc, etc.
