Not to belabor the point, but there is a lot of slap fighting in a lot of American (history and/or science profession). You've heard of the Bone Wars, right? When two guys were busily digging up Montana to find the most dinosaurs TM and then destroying whatever they hadn't finished digging up at the end of the season so the other guy couldn't get back to it first the next spring? Because ho boy.
