Soon: Work
Jan. 10th, 2020 12:42 amI think for my own sanity I'm gonna be doing my weekly schedule as:
Monday/Tuesday/Weds: School
Thursday: Day off
Friday/Saturday/Sunday: Work/schoolwork with the end of Sunday as a rest too.
But definitely most certainly I get Thursdays off.
I found my gesture drawing sketchbook so I have no excuse not to do them anymore. It's fun though. I just... need... to start.
Why is art so embarrassing to talk about until you're good at it (I'm not) but you can't get good at it until you've done it? It's very 'don't even start unless you're automatically great' which I try my best to not do to others. By god, I will support you. please support me
So I guess what I'm saying is, I'm sorry I'm not particularly professional yet but sometimes I wanna share what I've done. Please don't mock me. I'm honestly trying to improve.
One of my goals for 2020 is a webcomic I've already plotted out start to finish that should only take a year to do if I stick to schedule to improve storytelling and visual work by having an active task to do. I took 'don't start with an epic' to heart and I've already done tonnes of little diary comics and other such things.

Date: 2020-01-10 11:03 am (UTC)I have fond memories of the sketches and self portraits and doodles that you posted on journalfen in the olden days. I'm sure I can find within me the strength not to mock the stuff you're doing these days. So by all means share.
My own "What are you doing? This is not the great art you were destined to create, stop this immediately!" voice was so successful that it put itself out of work and after years of disuse it's a mere shadow of its former imposing presence. Now once or twice a year I can do something without waking it up, which is nice.

Date: 2020-01-10 11:14 am (UTC)I appreciate it! You have no idea how much I appreciate it and the reminder of what I used to get up to. Warm feelings in this cold Canadian weather.
Your voice sounds like a real jerk and a half. I think mine would have succeeded long ago if I didn't have any support. So even at my 'what am I doing' I still have little things to cling to like Ann saying she liked my layouts.
So boo to your voice. I'm glad it's weak and fragile now.

Date: 2020-01-12 04:44 pm (UTC)What helps me (not just with art, but any sort of work where I get to decide whether and when to start) is to think of one of those dumb inspirational quotes (which sometimes make infuriatingly good points): "You have to be willing to be bad at it in order to get good at it."
Edit: icon updated to reflect one of those things I want to get back to but am afraid of that jerk-voice inside me.
