Happy 2019!

I posted a decent chunk of fic in a lot of fandoms and not-fandoms in 2018, enough that just linking them all fills me with ennui.

I also got a quality assortment of gifts! I'm a lucky man. I can't even choose my favourite out of all of them! Fandoms include original work, She-Ra, X-Men (Mostly Gambit), Fairytales, and even Zoo Tycoon! Also my sister wrote a Jeeves and Wooster/Ranma Fusion for my birthday that gets special mention because she's my sister.

I wrote 33127 words that the world got to see in 2018 and that's pretty good. Pretty good indeed. I try not to compare myself to my friends who wrote 100k+, though I am properly admiring of them considering that on top of that they're damn good authors. Prolific, consistent, and good quality. That's the dream!

Honestly the reason most of my recap of last year is about my fanfic is because that is the only aspect of my life I can click on a statistics page for. I can't actually remember most of 2018. I know it wasn't too bad and the parts that were bad for me passed. I know that I forgot to drink my New Year champagne.

I don't know, is last year the year I disconnected my stove and started using a plug in skillet? Did I reach season 11 of Murder She Wrote last year? The year before?

Did I disassemble my lego table then? I don't know. I'm starting to see why people use these things as diaries, because I can't seem to keep things straight in my head.

I was going to end this with a comic recommendation, but then I realized I'm ten issues or more behind on all my comics. So I don't know if they're currently good or not.

The last time I decided to have a nice reading session in the library, someone had placed a plastic skeleton in My Chair. It's still there, but now it's on the arm with its face pressed against the window to look at passerbys.

If it has one, it hasn't shared. It was a wedding skeleton at my brother's halloween themed wedding reception but sadly its bride (or groom, don't know which one we kept) went to go live with my aunt as her halloween decoration.

Skeleton chair!

I keep a text file with the year-end meme in it as a template and have a monthly reminder on my to-do list to update it with whatever happened that month. Otherwise I'd never remember what year people got married, etc.

That's sensible! My mother keeps each calendar and planner she used that year and refers back to them years later to find out what happened in her life that year.

What other stuff are you reading/behind on? Mine is Lost Light, Squirrel Girl, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Mr and Mrs. X, Wasp, and Ms. Marvel.

That's what Dreamwidth is for, and it's searchable. :) But I don't always note things like that in my day-to-day posts. Maybe I'll start doing month-end "what I did this month that I'd never done before" entries.

I was just reading about how if you tell people you're doing something, you're less likely to do it because you feel like you've already done it. So, um, just ignore my posts about my plans for the year...

Lesson: stick to recaps and leave out the failures. That way historians will only spend their time arguing that I was a straight woman, not talking about my many lack of accomplishments.

Heard great things about Ancient Magus' Bride! And Cells at Work looks cool.

I've got Case Closed! for manga! And a shelf full of Rin-ne and Inuyasha.

I don't know...it was making me sad so I de-prioritized it. I think another mini-series of Abe Sapien came out, too, which I haven't got.

AMB has some...uncomfortable underpinnings, but I love the quirky household/found family aspects, and the art is nice. Cells at Work is v cute! Oh wow Case Closed is rockin' it old school! I watched a handful of eps of the anime...is the manga fun? I have a bit of Inuyasha I think...next to the foot and a half span of a not even complete Ranma 1/2 collection. o.o; I have not heard of Rin-ne! ::chinhands:: 8D

Case Closed! is a fun mystery manga if you like puzzling out the puzzles and also are willing to sometimes accept 'murder wizard as a viable skillset for the killer.

Rin-ne is ALSO by Takahashi! It's about a grim reaper who is very poor and in high school and the girl who keeps helping him out. I'm a few volumes in!

I love Ranma 1/2, it's formative in a lot of ways.

OK Rin-ne sounds interesting!

Yes! I don't remember if the first anime I saw (in the 90's...I mean I'd been watching Speed Racer since I was little, and then Battle of the Planets and Voltron and Starblazers at a little older, and then Robotech came out when I was in high school and we called it Japanimation then and it was mind-blowing b/c a major-ish character ACTUALLY DIED) was Ranma or Sailor Moon, but those were the first two definitely. The Ranma fandom was what introduced me - very gently, really, as the story lends itself in a natural way - to yaoi. <3 ::has never looked back::

Fun fact: I had no idea Speed Racer, Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Samurai Pizza Cats, etc, were Japanese so Ranma gets to be first through the dint of being the first *knowing* anime.

X-Men introduced me to slash! Mom told me about fanfic when I was really sad about the X-Men cartoon ending 'cause she thought I'd write it like she used to write Star Trek fic but what happened was I looked it up on alta vista. And then I started looking up sound clips from the cartoons, old midi files, and came across one that had been edited to sound like Gambit/Wolverine and Rogue walking in and then there was fanart of Gambit in Wolverine's lap and my thought was 'huh, they're standing close!' and then mom went through my web history and had just watched her Due South mailing list descend into flames over slash and was like 'no this is a cursed thing!'

so I went back and read the whole (and only at the time) x-men slash archive.

I...am not sure I knew Speed Racer et al were Japanese, not at first? I mean I knew Ultraman was. But I did notice that there was a similarity of style to them, like there was for the Looney Toons, and Hannah-Barbara, and a bit later, Rankin-Bass. I could pick out voices, too, though I had no idea of names. I could pick out the guy who would go on to do Thundercracker years later, and the guy who would do Ratchet. Frank Welker had me fooled, though, because I never figured Fred was also Cosmo and also Iceman from Spiderman and His Amazing Friends! Oh and Shaggy, being Casey Kasem, was super familiar! Scatman Crouthers too!

OMG that's kind of epic! XDDD Oh lord Due South slash... My bff was way more into Due South than I ever got - though I liked it a good deal - and she told me all about the two Rays and the two camps dedicated thereof. XDDDDDDD
